NEBRA Recognized by Biosolids Management Award

On Wednesday, January 27th, at its Annual Conference, NEWEA presents its annual Biosolids Management Award to NEBRA's Ned Beecher, who has been Executive Director since the organization's inception in 1998.

Founding NEBRA member Shelagh Connelly notes that "Ned well deserves this award for his efforts to promote biosolids and residuals use throughout the Northeast.  Over 55% of biosolids across the country are recycled, and here in New England, facilities as big as Boston's Deer Island Treatment Plant and as small as the wastewater facility in Essex Junction, Vermont, and many in between, like Concord, NH and Lewiston-Auburn, Maine,  rely on the NEBRA network of technical knowledge, experience, and advocacy to advance their residuals recycling programs.  NEBRA helps us all focus on sustainabilitythe environmental, social, and economic benefits โ€“ of residuals management, and it is great to see this work recognized."

In accepting the award, Beecher notes that "this is really an honor for the whole of NEBRA - the many Board members and committees who have served over the years and our dedicated, professional members, who, day by day, make biosolids and residuals recycling happen. It's not one person who makes all this happen.  It's the network.  And I am honored to work with and support our members' efforts.  I can't imagine a better job.  I thank you all for your support and good work."

The recipient of the Biosolids Management Award is nominated by the NEWEA Residuals Management Committee and serves to recognize individuals or organizations who have demonstrated commitment "to science based processes and practices, public education and outreach, regulatory and policy matters, energy consumption, cross media impact management, information sharing with peers, and commitment to sustainability, and local ecosystems."  The award was established in 2014, and John Donovan, recently retired from CDM Smith, was the 2015 recipient.
